Mafia Wars by Zynga : Tips and Tricks
1. Get an early start by building your mafia as soon as possible. Go to YouTube and search "mafia wars ipod" or "mafia wars iphone", select some videos and post your clan code number as a comment to several videos. This is a simple way to grow your mob very quickly. Don't bother wasting real money on Godfather Loyalty Points to buy anything in the game, including adding new members to your crew!
2. Focus on building up cash quickly early on in the game, it's easier to do it sooner rather than later to keep up with other mobs that you're up against. Do the highest paid missions, choose your fights wisely, and start investing in properties as soon as you can.
3. Weapons: early in the game the best deal is the Colt Pistol. They're cheap, have no upkeep, and give you the best value of attack and defense points for your money. When you have extra money to spend on weapons, just keep buying the Colt. Pay attention though, at a certain point it will no longer count a new pistol towards your attack/defense, and you're just wasting money. When this happens, distribute funds to more expensive weapons.
4. Fighting: choose opponents wisely to increase your chances of success greatly. Shoot for targets who are at a higher level than you, and fall short on at least two of the following: attack points, defense points, or mafia size. Opponents at higher levels will bring in much more money when you win, and if they're weaker than you in at least two areas you're almost guaranteed to win.
5. Take the money you've won and keep investing in real estate. You'll come to a point where when you let the game go overnight you'll have a nice fresh pile of money waiting for you to spend on more weapons and more property. Continue to build your inventories as you play the game, this will put you ahead of many other players since people tend to neglect this as they go on.
6. When you achieve a new level, use your skill points on energy. This allows you to do more missions at once, and in higher levels the "price" of new missions rise, leaving you unable to do them if you haven't been adding to your energy allowance. Spending skill points on attack, defense, health, or stamina is usually a waste since you get more experience and money with jobs anyway.
